This reflection was initiated by the Commission's 1996 Green Paper [1] on "The Role, Position and Liability of the Statutory Auditor in the EU".

(80) The Commission's Green Paper on 'the role, the position and the liability of the statutory auditor in the EU` (7) raises a number of questions concerning audit regulation in the Community.
