Surficial Geology of the Sawn Lake Area, Alberta (NTS 84B/13)

Bear in mind, however, that InSight’s main objective is to study the inner depths of Mars, and not geological surface features.

Data includes: borehole information, isopachs, structural contours and both bedrock and surficial geology image overlays.

Because of this, much of the region’s topography and surficial geology results from glaciation, and most of its soils are young compared with those in unglaciated areas.

The scope of the array is to provide high quality data to be used in studies of the physics of wave propagation, the non-linear soil behavior, liquefaction phenomena and the effects of surface geology on strong ground motion.
