The Park is the home of 1,600 vegetal species and typical Apennine fauna: the wolf, the Abruzzo chamois, the bear and the golden eagle.

Perched on a rocky spur and dominated by the summits of Mount Marsicano and Mount Petroso, Opi has an abundance of archaeological evidence and is also well-known for the Museo del Camoscio d’Abruzzo chamois museum.

Mainarde but also provide an ideal habitat for the Abruzzo chamois – which often descends along the ridge, going in the winter as the doors of the houses – for deer and roe deer.

The oldest of the Apennine mountain parks has had a fundamental role in the preservation of some of the most important species of the great Italian fauna: brown bear, marsicano, abruzzo chamois and wolf.
