The Ordre de la Varlope is awarded to some of its members to encourage them to “continue to use the jointer, which is a very useful tool to smooth out the difficulties and round the corners (squares, by the way).
It is as wide as the No. 7 Jointer but only two-thirds the length.
Nevertheless, a jointer is still a useful tool, providing the ability to thin boards as needed and match their thickness.

The longest and heaviest of the bench planes, the No. 8 will flatten and true like no other.
