Qualitative Descriptors (D) for Determining Good Environmental Status (GES) under the MSFD

The MSFD zoning is based on existing zones defined by the regional seas conventions (OSPAR and Barcelona).

The good environmental status is based on eleven descriptors, which are listed in the annex of the MSFD.

The MSFD addresses human activities that have the potential to impact on the marine environment (excluding military uses).
